I can finally show you that I indeed have been knitting throughout September! This is the Laminaria shawl from Knitty. I’ve kept it a secret all this time because it was a surprise for my sister. I gave it to her yesterday, and she loved it.

This week should be nice and relaxing but instead I’m whipping myself up into a nervous frenzy because I know I have to wear pantyhose on Sunday for my sister’s bridal shower. What should be a fun day is causing me stress because I have an irrational reaction to “dressing up” or “looking nice.” My weight fluctuates a lot which means nothing fits me twice, I have no comfortable dress shoes and always feel like no matter what I choose to wear to these things, it’s the wrong thing. Why couldn’t I be one of those slim, breezy women whose thighs do not touch and whose closets are full of all the right clothes? Instead, I’m wishing that Natalie’s shower was going to be at Pizza Hut so I could wear jeans and a hoodie. Also? Pizza Hut is delicious.
Despite that, I’m looking forward to it and Natalie deserves this day dedicated entirely to her. Traditionally, instead of having a sweet table catered by the restaurant, at Macedonian showers you’ll find that everyone brings some kind of homemade dessert to the party. On your way out at the end of the shower, everyone helps themselves to the dessert buffet and takes home some goodies. My contribution to this is going to be chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting. I’ll be making them on Saturday and frosting them on Saturday night. I’m not sure how I’ll decorate them yet. I’ll also be helping Natalie put together some centerpieces for the party.
Hey, look what Tara gave me! Thanks Tara.

And here’s a photo of Cuba, just because.

Alex has gone for the weekend to my mother’s house, which leaves us with a quiet day to ourselves that we’re going to try to enjoy. This is the weekend the drive-in closes so we’re making a point to go; since we don’t have Alex with us we’re going to finally see Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express. Or we may join our friends and see Burn After Reading instead. We don’t have to decide until we get there.
Once again I’m posting about food. I’ve been cooking a lot lately, trying new things, so my focus lies there right now. Today I’m going to make Eggs Florentine for a very late breakfast, which is something I’ve never tried before, neither to eat nor to cook. I looked up a couple of recipes to get an idea of how it’s supposed to go, and then I’m going to wing it from there. Basically I’m going to sauté some spinach, poach a few eggs (eek!), layer them in a square pan, pour on some white sauce, sprinkle gruyère on top, stick it in the oven for a few minutes, eat. Nothing fancy and no potatoes. I am very intimidated by poaching eggs.
On the fibre front I’m going to try to find some time to spin today. I haven’t done any spinning in a surprising amount of time. I’m a bit scared to sit down at the wheel to find I no longer know how to do it! I’ve got some BFL that I dyed ages ago on my Rose right now, in pale yellows and blues, in the process of becoming a 2-ply.

Take a look at the beautiful display the ladies of The Naked Sheep made with the yarn I sent them! This colourway is exclusive to them, so if you like it, you know where to go. A new shipment of spinning fibre is on its way there right now because Lisa tells me it’s getting snapped up quick! This is really exciting for me!
